'Guess I should have known’ was written about having to deal with narsism in its worst form and how it destroys your inner soul slowly over time, yet you keep ‘drinking from the cup of sweet coated lies’ believing the situation will better itself and then scolding yourself because you should have known better that it wouldn’t. I think the song will speak to anybody who’s had a partner, family member, friend or somebody in their life who has done them wrong, but hoping the situation would change when deep down they know it won’t.
